World Premiere Polestar 4

Polestar still has a long way to go in terms of business to compete with Tesla. With just 51.491 cars sold worldwide last year, Volvo Cars' all-electric sister brand is a multiple of Tesla's 1,31 million vehicles. While Tesla is already successful in selling electric cars, Polestar, five years after the spin-off, is still in the red.

However, Polestar has already surpassed Tesla in terms of design and sales. While Tesla's global sales are stagnating and the Californian automaker has to be stimulated with constant price reductions, Polestar is growing rapidly under its own steam. Sales increased by over 80 percent last year and by 26 percent in the first quarter of this year.

World premiere for a design piece! polestar 4

The Polestar 4 promises spectacular performance and will be the most powerful and fastest model in the range. The all-wheel drive version achieves impressive drive power of up to 400 kW or 544 hp, paired with a maximum torque of 686 Newton meters (Nm) and acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h in just 3,8 seconds. The rear-wheel drive version “Long Range Single Motor”, on the other hand, has a drive power of 200 kW and a maximum torque of 343 Nm, but achieves a considerable range of up to 600 kilometers with one filling of the standard 102 kWh battery. The all-wheel drive vehicle, on the other hand, is given a WLTP range of 564 kilometers. In order to optimize efficiency and thus the range, the engine on the front axle switches off automatically via a clutch when the additional power is not needed.

The prospects for a continued racy ride are good as order books recently opened for the Polestar 3 SUV, which will be launched in the third quarter of the year. At the auto show in Shanghai, the subsidiary of the Chinese Geely Group presented the production version of the Polestar 4 - an enchantingly beautiful electric car measuring 4,84 meters in length and 1,54 meters in height, which combines the dynamics of a sports coupe with the space of an SUV.

Polestar's goal is a special driving experience, achieved through advanced technology and unique design. Although Polestar can't yet compete with Tesla in terms of business success, the company has already proven that it can succeed in terms of design and sales.

World premiere in Shanghai

At the presentation of the Polestar 4 in Shanghai, Ingenlath emphasized that they took an innovative approach to the design of an SUV coupe. Rather than simply flattening the Polestar 3's roof, the rear header has been moved backwards, which serves an important safety function. The result is a unique design that perfects the coupe-like roofline. A tiny cutout would have sufficed to make room for the rear window, which is why they decided to omit it entirely.

The Polestar 4 has a roof camera instead, giving the driver a clear view of what's happening behind the car. Similar to the Renault Megané E-Tech, the image is displayed on a high-resolution monitor in the digital rear-view mirror. When the system is off, the driver can keep an eye on their rear seat passengers. The panoramic roof stretches over their heads and can be made opaque at the touch of a button and by electrical impulses to reduce solar radiation. This unique design is similar to Tesla's, but with an added feature that makes it unique.

And how much does the Polestar 4 cost

The Polestar 4 will remain priced below the Polestar 3, which is not usually the case with coupes. Other car brands such as Volkswagen and Audi charge a price premium of around 1600 to 2200 euros for their sportier models compared to their SUV models. In contrast, the Polestar 4 will be positioned between the entry-level Polestar 2 (from 48.990 euros) and the large electric SUV Polestar 3 (from 88.600 euros) and will be available in Europe at an introductory price of 60.000 euros. However, it remains to be seen whether Polestar can match the Tesla Model Y, which recently dropped the entry-level price to under €45.000 and the price for the powerful performance version to €60.990.
