The 48-Volt hybrid technology is considered an inexpensive alternative to the classic hybrid drive without socket outlet. What is needed is an electrical system with 48 Volt voltage, which is pulled into the car parallel to the well-known 12-Volt network. The higher voltage improves the braking force recovery, the thus obtained additional power can be used as an energy source for an electric motor that complements the burner. "Car buyers will buy the 48 Volt mild hybrid because of the extra power that automotive companies will offer because it helps them comply with environmental regulations," said Delphi's chief technology officer Jeff Owens.
Delphi works like almost the entire supplier elite on the 48-Volt technology. Bosch, for example, has unveiled the second generation of its 48-Volt hybrid at the IAA, which can now also drive short distances purely electrically.
