Age of new car buyers

For years, the group of new car buyers has aged more and more. Now she's getting younger again - at least a little.

Car buyers are getting younger again. After the average age of the German New cars-Customers stagnated after years of growth since 2015, it fell from 52,7 to 52,4 years in the first five months of the year, according to the Center Automotive Research (CAR). The experts led by study leader Ferdinand Dudenhöffer see the aging trend that has been going on since the beginning of the millennium for the time being. Two decades ago, the average age of German new car buyers was 46,1 years. The fact that the proportion of customers in the group of 30 to 44 year olds increased from 2015 to 2020 percent between 19,3 and 20,8 also fits in with the slowing down of the “Methuselah effect”.
