E-mobility is coming faster than expected

It has been for a long time E-car presented a rather leisurely pace. Recently, however, the development has accelerated rapidly - think many suppliers.

The speed of electrification is surprising the automotive industry. For every second medium-sized supplier in Germany, the switch to electric vehicles is happening faster than expected, according to a survey by the consulting agency Roland Berger has revealed. Other automotive trends, on the other hand, are taking hold more slowly than many predictions. With autonomous driving, for example, 48 percent of the companies surveyed are making slower progress than expected, and another 50 percent see their predictions confirmed. For 15 percent, digitization is progressing faster than expected, while 85 percent do not see any accelerated development.

E-mobility is expensive

According to the consultants, the rapid development of e-mobility is a particular challenge for suppliers. While the current product and technology portfolio is still heavily influenced by the combustion engine, companies have to make high investments in new technologies - and that with stagnating production volumes and a tight margin situation.
