It will be the fastest luxury SUV on our planet, the Bentley Bentayga Speed, when it is delivered at the end of 2019. With an additional 27 hp, the pilot then has a total of 635 purebred British thoroughbreds at his disposal. But is it really the fastest production SUV in the world?
What was previously sufficient for a top speed of 300 km/h will make future customers of a "Speed" the fastest SUV driver. The Bentley Bentayga Speed is then 306 km/h fast. Stop, some might think. The Urus, which belongs to the same group, also delivers 305 km/h, recently also in one Lamborghini Urus Off Road-Variant. That's true, but for us the Bentley is in a far more luxurious league than the Urus. The Urus is intended more for a sporty audience, the Bentayga for everyone who values automotive, British understatement.
Numbers alone are just smoke and mirrors
Back to the numbers. The Bentayga accelerates to 3,9 km/h in 100 seconds. In the normal version, it took 4,1 seconds. This is also thanks to the revised version of the 6,2-liter W12 engine. The engine, which produces 900 Nm of torque, is supported by the fast-shifting eight-speed gearbox, which transmits the power to all wheels of the "Speed".
With an electronic differential lock and a total of eight driving modes, four for on-road and four for off-road, the speed can go almost anywhere. A standard, stiffer chassis and optional carbon-ceramic brakes help the Speed to make a safe entrance. Something about the brakes. These are optional though. But we warmly recommend it to every future pilot.
Not just because they are the biggest to date. No, they should also grab the strongest. The maximum braking torque is 6.000 Nm and the system is designed to withstand temperatures of up to 1.000 °C. In addition, a weight saving of more than 20 kg is possible compared to cast iron brakes.
Speed as far as the eye can see
No owner is spared the agony of choice. Personalization extends beyond the standard 22” ten-spoke wheels, tinted headlights, taillights and rear spoiler. Even a full leather interior is standard. Alcantara is optional and the customer can choose between four and five-person seating.
By attaching different "Speed" logos both to the exterior and to the interior of the luxury SUV, the customer will always remember the fastest version of his Bentley Bentayga remind.
Very important for dignified travelling, the 22-way adjustable front seats with massage function. However, these are already included in the price, even if this is not yet officially known. Due to the "Speed" variant and some additional elements, this should be higher than the price of a current Bentayga of around 210.000 euros.
