"Gasoline in the blood - proven"

"In cooperation with Shell"

I like networking, cloud and gadgets about as much as driving a car. What could be more obvious than combining the two? When SHELL asked me whether I would like to take part in the "Shell drives you" study, it quickly became clear: Of course I want to.

Shell drives you - your emotions while driving?

Do you know driver Tourette? When others drive silly and upset you? Actually you are a calm guy yourself, but don't you know how a rescue alley or the zipper procedure works? Then does your blood pressure skyrocket and you get motorist Tourette? I confess - although I like driving a lot, sometimes I have a Tourette driver.

So how is driving?

In order to find out the difference and learn more about their own emotional state when driving, Shell equipped the around 300 participants in the study with a "bracelet". This "Bracelet 37 °" not only measures the pulse and the activity, but is also intended to provide information about the emotional state and the current mood. I was a little skeptical. But hey, you never know what works.
For 14 days, the bracelet is now my daily companion. And you have to get used to it first. Because the operator clearly says that the tape has to fit snugly and that is not pleasant. So while the Apple watch is now tied on the left, the Shell wearable is also on the right wrist.

Fitness bracelet and APP work together

But the fitness bracelet is only part of the experimental setup. In order to link the data of the bracelet with the times when you are sitting in the car, you tell the 37 ° bracelet app that you are now starting your "journey" and SHELL also has an APP that can do more than just drive tracken. However, the “tracking” of trips is particularly important for this study. In addition to smartpay, clubsmart and other options, the Shell app also offers the "SHELL DRIVE" area.
The study participants also start this app before each trip. However, anyone can use this app. The journey is recorded and evaluated using GPS data. As of today, I have already recorded 787 km of travel. Among other things, the app determines the acceleration values from the GPS data and provides information on the efficiency of the journey. The app currently accuses me of accelerating and braking too hard. Well then - I'm just someone who primarily enjoys driving a car.
In conjunction with the data from the fitness armband, the biological side of driving can now be linked to the measured values of the GPS. The question at the end: how do you feel when driving a car?
If you now include the data of all participants, add the weather data and use experts from different areas to evaluate the data, you get quite valid results on the relationship between sleep, nutrition, moods and the "fun of driving" or the frustration potential the daily journey.

Data, data, data

Many people are afraid to disclose their own data. I personally find the topic of "SHELL DRIVES YOU" exciting enough to even reveal my biodata for 14 days. The fact that my driving routes are also recorded doesn't bother me at all. On the contrary. I hope my data will provide me with some enlightening information about my driving mood afterwards - I hope not only to suffer from Tourette drivers, but also to drive passionately - whether I am really good 🙂 - let's see the test.
