Best transport networks

Short distances, electric cars and many speed cameras - at least from the point of view of fleet managers, this makes traffic in cities attractive. German cities can also score points in this regard.

The Belgian capital, Brussels, has the most efficient and sustainable transport network among European metropolises. The European city was able to score points in a study by the vehicle fleet management company Verizon Connect, above all with a low risk of accidents and a high density of speed cameras, which, according to the criteria of the investigation, is an indication of high traffic safety. The resilience and quality of the transport network as well as the spread of new drive, mobility and connectivity technologies were also examined for the ranking. The number of e-cars and car sharing offers was taken into account.

Vienna and Amsterdam landed on the other top ranks of the “Smart Driving City Index” ahead of Hamburg. With fourth place, the Hanseatic city performed best among the German centers. Points were mainly awarded for the resilience of the transport system. Cologne, Berlin and Munich also placed in the top ten. At the bottom of the 30 ranking are Bucharest, Saragossa and Riga.
