Best month of the year

E-cars and Plug-in hybrids remain in demand. According to a study, it was a record year.

The demand for electric vehicles is growing faster than the overall market. In June 2021, 64.734 new electric cars and plug-in hybrids were registered, according to figures from the Center of Automotive Management (CAM). The market share was 23,6 percent. The purely electric cars had 33.420 new registrations and, with a market share of 12,2 percent, clearly exceeded the plug-in hybrids with 11,4 percent. Only in December 2020 were more e-cars registered in Germany.

In the first half of the year, more than 312.000 e-vehicles were registered, which corresponds to an increase of 230 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The overall market increased by 14,9 percent to 1,39 million cars in the same period. The level of the pre-Corona half-year 2019 is thus still well below. For the year as a whole, the CAM expects around 600.000 new e-car registrations. That would be a new record.
