After the 3 Series in 2015 and the 3 Series GT in 2016 is enough BMW in spring 2017 after the model maintenance for the family of 4. As with the technically closely related sedan, the revision is subtle. Coupé, Cabriolet and Gran Coupé benefit equally from the measures.
BMW has only marginally changed the look of the front and rear aprons. The bi-LED headlights that are standard for all 4 series are new. The graphics of the LED rear lights have also been slightly modified. New rim designs and new colors also provide some variety.
The interior architecture remained untouched, but the cockpit of the 4 Series is a bit nicer thanks to the upgraded surfaces. There is also a new sports steering wheel and new leather covers for the seats. In addition, the Infotainment system Professional benefits from an upgrade and has the tile user interface introduced with the 5 series. While Apple's smartphones can be docked, Android devices are still left out. Irrespective of the operating system, cell phones can be charged inductively in the 4 series. And finally, the digital instrument cluster adjusts its display to the selected driving mode for an additional charge.
BMW has also revised the chassis. Thanks to optimized dampers and improved steering, it should convey more dynamic potential. With the help of tighter tuning, BMW has reduced the roll tendency of the 4 Series, which ensures more neutral behavior at the limit.
BMW knitted the drive range of the family of 4 back in 2016. The 420i, 430i and 440i petrol engines with 135 kW / 184 hp to 240 kW / 326 hp are also available for all body variants. There are also the four diesels 418d, 420d, 430d and 435d. While the 418d is only available with the Gran Coupé, the stronger three diesel engines are available for all members of the 4 family. As before, the M4 is also 317 kW / 431 hp.
The official market launch for the family of 4 is on March 1, 2017. The price will then go up. Coupé and Gran Coupé cost at least 420 euros with the 39.650i, the Cabriolet is available from 46.800 euros. The starting price for the 4 Series is currently 37.550 euros. (Mario Hommen / SP-X)
