BMW G30: Number five lives!

Once again, the internet is to blame. Or so. A leak in advance gives the writing and blogging guild overtime. After the footage leaked, BMW officially released the information about the new five-generation car.

The entire presentation process seems a little awkward. Because BMW “actually” planned the world premiere of the five-series for the Detroit auto show. In January 2017. The market launch of the five-series will not be until February 2017 and the first journalists will be able to drive the new five-series at the end of November 2016. mein-auto-blog will also be there and report on the driving dynamics of the five-series.

It shouldn't be much less than "can “Business limousine”. The seventh generation of the five-series BMW. Cool, connected, hip, stylish like an iPhone and still the benchmark in the upper business sedan segment. Networking and cloud intelligence are at the forefront, but the basis of good automobile construction should not be forgotten. And so when developing number five, BMW placed a lot of emphasis on aerodynamics and on the Munich-based company's domain, on the chassis. Elaborate and light, double wishbones at the front, a five-link axle at the rear. The whole thing is made primarily of aluminum. This is complemented by a balanced weight balance and a body that is once again more torsion-resistant. The basic ingredients for driving fun, driving dynamics and therefore the essence of emotional “driving”. Driving pleasure? Enjoyment of digitization!

More assistance systems and the step into the digital future

Evasive Assistants, Lane Change Assistants, Cross Traffic Assistants and and and - the package of assistance systems has been massively expanded. With the new five, the Munich-based company wants to be the intelligent spearhead among the competitors of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6. Then there is also the remote parking system known from the Siebener and the complete integration of the BMW Connected System. That the fiver can read signs, warns the driver against disregard of right-of-way signs and also warns on one-way streets, is only part of the assistance system offensive. You can now control the five, like the seven, with gestures through the multimedia system and of course the voice control system now also understands entire sentences.

100 pounds lighter and a cW record

A mixed construction of steel and aluminum leads to a weight loss, without any carbon core like the seven. The clever use of classic building materials should lead to a weight reduction of around 100 kilos. To increase efficiency, diet is just one measure, a good drag coefficient is another. With a drag coefficient of 0.22 for the 520d as “Efficient Dynamics Edition”, the five-series is on a par with the previous front-runner, the Mercedes-Benz CLA.

From 45.200 €

The starting price is 45.200 € for the 520d. The 540i with six-cylinder starts at 57.700 €

190 to 340 PS at the start in February

Turbine-like rotating six-cylinder, they are the essence of the brand and will also be present again in the new five. However, the new four-cylinder engines play a much more important role. The BMW 530i has the 252 hp two-liter on board. And only the 540i comes with a 340 hp straight six. The main role is still played by the diesel engines, even if BMW announces that it will be offering the five-piece with a plug-in hybrid from March (shortly after the market launch).

When it comes to the performance euphoria, one shouldn't forget to mention: Consumption drops between 10 and 12% on average.
