BMW i3s - Sporty clean man in the endurance test

Four years after the i3 debut, BMW submitted a sports version of the electric compact car last fall. It's stronger and faster, but it does not come as far as the standard model. The basic price also rose by 3.600 € and thus to 41.150 Euro.

BMW i3s - Sporty clean man in the endurance test

From the 15. June 2018 to 31. October 2018 will serve the BMW i3s in the editorial department of AUTOHUB.de.

The performance increases in the sports model called i3s from the 125 kW / 170 PS of the normal i3 to 135 kW / 184 PS. This also has an influence on the performance. The 0's regular table speed on Tempo 100 drops below the seven-second mark, the top speed is now 160 instead of 150 km / h. The developers are particularly proud of the better power development in the area around Tempo 80, because usually electric motors quickly lose their torque at higher engine speeds. Here, the i3s improves by 3 seconds over the i0,8, now accelerating from 80 to 120 km / h in 4,3 seconds.

However, more power and wider tires cost electricity. According to the NEDC standard, the i3s require 14,3 kWh per 100 kilometer, previously it was 12,6 kWh depending on the tires in the best case. Of course, this also has an impact on the radius of action, it drops to 312 standard on 280 kilometers. BMW still specifies 200 kilometers as the daily driving range.

Visually, the sports model differs by a more present appearance of the standard i3. His track was widened by four, the tires widened by two centimeters (175er front, 195er rear) and the rims one on 20 increased inches. In addition, there are black fender flares and a body lowered by an inch.

DURATION TEST - BMW i3s - 2018

We start the endurance test at mileage 3.613 in mid-June. The first official act is to register BMW Connected in your own account. Especially when it comes to electric vehicles, linking the digital world with your own vehicle makes a lot of sense. Is the car currently charging in the garage? Is the battery enough? Or simply to air-condition the vehicle before departure. Our long-term test vehicle is an i3s with almost complete equipment, which pushes the test car price to over €50.000. Even with the “small ones” or “alternatives”, the premium manufacturer BMW is a premium manufacturer and the customer is king. Or it should be. But the purchase prices are a theoretical size anyway, a BMW is leased for over 80% and an electric car is no exception. Leasing electric vehicles for companies makes double sense. If you're still worried about battery technology, you can sit back and relax with a leasing option for the duration of the guarantee. There is no verifiable experience from i3 drivers to worry about.

E-driving is relaxation and tension at the same time. We are looking forward to our first weeks in the small electro-Munich.
