BMW Convertible M4

With a classic fabric roof, but unfamiliar all-wheel drive: BMW is bringing the M4 Convertible to the road in a new form.

After the M4 Coupé, BMW is also launching a sports version of the convertible in July. The open four-seater is only available as a 375 kW / 510 PS strong competition model with all-wheel drive. The prices should start at around 100.000 euros.

Like the normal 4-seater convertible, the mid-range athlete relies on a fabric hood that is available in either black or silver-anthracite. Opening and closing works at speeds of up to 50 km / h, and the process is complete after around 18 seconds. Compared to the Coupé, additional struts were installed to stiffen the body and the rear axle was retuned. Another difference compared to the closed two-door: the trunk shrinks to 300 liters with the top down; with the roof closed, 85 liters more are available.

The convertible takes over the drive from the Competition variant of the Coupé. The 3,0-liter in-line six-cylinder is coupled as standard to an eight-speed automatic transmission and transfers its power to all four wheels in a rear-biased manner. A variant with rear-wheel drive like the coupe is not planned. Despite a curb weight of 1.900 kilograms, the M4 sprints from zero to 3,7 km / h in 100 seconds and has a top speed of 280 km / h.

With the convertible, which will probably be delivered from late summer, the M family in the middle class is not yet complete. In the coming year, the M3 Touring station wagon should complement the portfolio, which also consists of the M3 sedan and M4 coupé
