BMW M8 - prototype of the new M model

BMW is working hard on a new M model. The future BMW M8 is still on the road as a prototype with its original foiling and the label “Too many secrets”. Last weekend he toured the Nürburgring and the Green Hell as part of the supporting program of the 24-hour race.

M8 – M model suitable for the race track

Classic M features such as the enlarged air intakes, the modified brake system or the sports exhaust system with four tailpipes are evidence of high performance potential. It is to be driven on all four wheels by a double-charged 4,4 liter V8 engine with an output of more than 600 hp.

“The design and development of the BMW 8 Series and the M model go hand in hand. Accordingly, the future eight M model will build on the genes of the 8 series and enrich its DNA with suitability for the racetrack and a significant increase in dynamics, precision and agility. This will be experienced in a way that is typical of BMW M and that also meets the highest demands of our customers.", says Frank van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH.

BMW M8 GTE – racing version for the 24-hour race

In addition to a normal customer version, BMW is also planning a racing variant. With the BMW M8 GTE, the Munich car manufacturer then wants to celebrate its debut at the 24-hour race in Daytona in early 2018.

In the case of the BMW M8 GTE, the anticipation is particularly great. Although we can't show any pictures yet, I can promise that the GTE will look spectacular. We are planning the first roll-out in the first half of the year. The first race is planned for the 24-hour race in Daytona at the end of January 2018.”

Even in the 90s, the 850i was not underpowered for its time. With a V12 engine with 300 hp and 380 hp in the 850 CSi, the BMW 8 Series was produced from 1989 to 1999. It was the most expensive model in the BMW range. Only around 30.000 vehicles were made during the entire production period.
