Bollinger doesn't sound like an SUV at first. More like a stylish piece of clothing or a sports accessory. But far from it, Bollinger Motors, an American startup from Michigan, is presenting the prototype of the Bollinger electric off-road SUV. The first electric off-road vehicle to date. Now the SUV has grown with the follow-up model, an electric pickup, the Bollinger SUT with the abbreviation B2.
The body of the Bollinger B1 and B2 models is made of aluminum. A specially developed platform for the hardcore electric SUV makes swapping body parts quite easy.
Bollinger was founded in 2015 by industrial designer Robert Bollinger. His goal is to "reinvent the truck" and not just "electrify it".
Bollinger SUV and Bollinger SUT pickup
[dropcap size=big]B1[/dropcap]The Bollinger B1 is a real SUV, the Bollinger B2 SUT is more of a "Sport Utility Truck", an SUV with a loading area. Both models combine modern electronic technology with an edgy retro look. Certainly something worth considering for automobile and environmentally oriented lifestyle fans. Both retro off-road vehicles deliver 614 hp with around 900 Newton meters of torque. This is enough for acceleration to 4,5 km/h in 100 seconds. According to the company, the maximum speed is 160 km/h.
Each of the two axles is driven by an electric motor via a two-speed automatic transmission. The batteries provide a capacity of 120 kWh.
Designed for extreme off-road use
Bollinger Motors sees its two models in extreme terrain. This is reflected in the variable ground clearance from 25 to 50 cm. An even weight distribution of 50/50 and wheel path dimensions of 25 cm should be enough for tough outdoor use.
Bollinger specifies a payload of 2.359 kilograms. The trailer load is 3.402 kilos.
