New caravanning registrations

Long-distance travel difficult, holiday homes too - the consequences of the corona pandemic are causing a sustained motorhome boom.

The demand for motorhomes and caravans remains high. In the first quarter, 24.224 units were registered across Germany, according to the industry association CIVD. Compared to the same period of the previous year, this corresponds to an increase of 12,6 percent. With an increase of 24 percent to 19.058 units, motorhomes were particularly popular. The number of new caravans, on the other hand, fell by 16 percent to 5.166 caravans.

According to the CIVD, the leisure vehicle industry is also benefiting from the corona pandemic, which has made self-sufficient and low-contact vacations attractive. 2020 was a record year with more than 107.000 new registrations. In the first quarter, however, the restrictions caused by the virus also had a negative impact on business, including the closure of the motor vehicle trade.
