CES 2019 Innovation Award for the door opening assistant

The automobile manufacturers and especially the automotive suppliers have been conquering CES in Las Vegas for several years. The Consumer Electronic Show is the fair when it comes to future technologies and Continental is a big part of it and of course it's there. The CES 2019 is nicknamed "The Global Stage for Innovation" and Continental brings a special innovation to the USA. More specifically to Las Vegas, because that's where Conti will be in the North Hall at #7519. There, visitors to CES will find the Continental stand of Tuesday, the 08. January 2019 until Friday the 11. January 2019 is accessible.

Excellent: Continental receives the Innovation Award of the CES 2019

What we can already reveal today: Continental will receive the Innovation Award for the intelligent door system at CES 2019. So now, find out what will be awarded a prize in January.
Comfort, safety and optimal protection. That was high up in the specifications of the engineers of Conti, now the system is also awarded the prize. But what is it all about? An autonomous door opener? An obstacle detection that prevents collisions? A door brake system that allows the opening angle to be freely selected? Everything in one technology and beyond, the system also prevents the uncontrolled slamming of the door. Even if the vehicle is at an angle on a slope.

The system receives the CES 2019 Innovation Award at CES 2019 in the category "Vehicle Intelligence and Self-Driving Technologies". The system is designed to prevent bumps and scratches in the paint and thus save money, because who ever had a scratch or a bump in the door, knows how annoying that can be.
Doors open when the driver comes? It almost sounds like KITT, doesn't it? The animated film “Wall-E” was released ten years ago. In addition to the polluted earth, the film is primarily about the people who are becoming more and more comfortable and who let the technology work. In addition to convenience, there are good reasons for an intelligent door system - especially for families. Families like to buy vehicles with sliding doors, the advantage is obvious: Children can rarely hit other objects or vehicles with the sliding door if they open the door independently. But not everyone wants to drive a high-roof estate car with sliding doors.
How quickly do you overestimate your own abilities or underestimate the gap? How often do you think: "That suits you!" And then it does not fit, or was made to fit? How fast is one careless and pushes the door to the vehicle which is next to one in the (probably anyway too narrow) parking space. This has probably happened to everyone before. So if we can use technologies that protect us from our own mistakes, that's legitimate, right?

Show vehicle shows intelligent door system

At CES 2019 you can see the technology of the intelligent door on a demo vehicle. Two different systems are integrated into the show car. Firstly, the doors open via the keyless entry system “PASE”. If the vehicle recognizes the driver, he will open the door for him. Incidentally, this also applies when he walks to the passenger door. But in addition to this convenience function, which we will surely see again sooner or later in the luxury class, there is also anti-trap protection. A system that is already familiar with electric window regulators, such a system prevents crushed fingers or deformed objects. If the door detects an obstacle, it will stop the opening process. With the Power Door Control function, Continental supports the autonomous opening and closing of vehicle doors - and thanks to anti-trap protection, it protects passengers from crushed fingers, hands or objects.

Another assistant moves into the car: the door opening assistant

The door opening assistant is particularly interesting for the beige generation or children. Here you will soon no longer need any force to open the door, for example on a slope, you no longer have to worry that this door will simply fall into the lock. A freely definable opening angle (within the scope of the possibilities) can be set, this also applies to the speed, the "swinging slamming" is therefore also a thing of the past.
We find the new assistant exciting and would be happy to see it soon in a vehicle that runs in series from the band. Because showing great innovations is one thing, producing them in series is another.
