The Jaguar C-X75 hybrid supercar

British carmaker Jaguar has recently confirmed that it will produce the Jaguar C-X75 hybrid supercar in a limited series of 250 vehicles. The well-known British Formula 1 racing team Williams was won as a partner for the cooperation.

Williams brings with it many years of experience in the areas of carbon fiber manufacturing, aerodynamics and hybrid technology. The performance of the Jaguar C-X75 should be at super sports car level. The Jaguar C-X75 will be the ultimate embodiment of the Jaguar brand in terms of design.

The model will follow as closely as possible the study unveiled in Paris 2010, while meeting the requirements for road vehicle approval. According to Jaguar, the C-X75 will “become the most beautiful hybrid supercar in the world.”

Microturbines for the C-X75

Jaguar will not adopt the microturbine technology shown for the first time in the Paris concept study for the series C-X75, but will continue to develop it in the future. Tata Motors, Jaguar's parent company, has already acquired a large stake in Bladon Jets, the designer and manufacturer of the range-extending gas turbines. One would like to use this technology in future Jaguar models in the medium term.

To get the C-X75 into Jaguar's showrooms on schedule, a similarly innovative powertrain had to be developed. At Jaguar, the solution was found in a combustion engine with a comparatively small displacement and high supercharging, which was paired with an electric motor on each axle.

The new drive is so compact that it can be installed relatively low in the Jaguar C-X75. In addition to optimal weight distribution, this allows the modern appearance of the hybrid super sports car to be retained. Incidentally, a purely electric driving style allows distances of up to 50 kilometers.

If the electric motors and the combustion engine are used at the same time, the Jaguar C-X75 becomes one of the world's fastest production sports cars. The all-wheel drive vehicle sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in under three seconds. According to Jaguar, the top speed will be in the range of 320 km/h. The engineers have set a target of 2 g/km for CO99 emissions. This is made possible by the innovative drive and the extreme lightweight construction.

The Jaguar C-X75 will cost between 800.000 and 1 million euros. The plan is to redefine sales and service for this super sports car in order to optimally address the target group for the 250 vehicles built.
