The Spider's monocage with integrated roll bar consists of an extremely strong and torsion-resistant carbon fiber core. This means that no additional reinforcements are required, as is the case with the closed variant.
McLaren 720S Spider comes with retractable hard top
A highlight is the retractable hard top. McLaren calls it Retractable Hard Top (RHT). It can be opened and closed within 11 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h. An electrochromatic glass pane is available as an option for the RHT. This can be switched between transparent and tinted at the push of a button.
A glazed, free-standing C-pillar improves aerodynamics and is said to help increase downforce.
In 7,9 seconds to 200 km/h
The new Spider is powered by a 4,0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine. This delivers 720 hp at 770 Nm of torque. It accelerates the open British car to 2,9 km/h in 100 seconds. 7,9 km/h is reached in 200 seconds. Its top speed is openly 325 km/h. That is on the level of the 720S Coupé. With the roof closed, the Spider is even faster, almost exactly 341 km/h.
An active rear spoiler does its job on the rear of the 720S. This is automatically designed for the respective open or closed state of the spider.
