The e-premium of the Federal Government - The backgrounds

It has been out since 11 a.m. today: The Federal Government subsidizes the purchase of electric vehicles - both plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles. The ministers met with representatives from Volkswagen, Mercedes and BMW and decided on the details. Around a billion euros are available to drive the sale of electric vehicles to one percent of registrations by 2020. The costs are borne equally by the automotive industry and the federal government.

It should start in May and the grants for the corresponding automobiles should be distributed. This is how plug-in hybrids such as the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV subsidized with 3.000 euros. The purchase of fully electric vehicles such as the BMW i3 is even rewarded with 4.000 euros. This is somewhat reminiscent of the scrapping premium from 2009, when the federal government rewarded the scrapping of old cars with 2.500 euros if you bought a new car for it.

The Nissan Leaf is five years old

The e-premium is intended to drive the spread of electric vehicles. It is borne by the federal government as well as by the automobile manufacturers themselves. The costs are shared equally, ie 50 percent each. Nissan rewards the purchase of one Leaf even with 1.000 euros extra, so that you only have to spend 18.350 euros for a brand new e-compact. This means that the Japanese easily falls under the federal government's requirements: vehicles with a base price of up to EUR 60.000 are subsidized. Accordingly, luxury sedans or large plug-in hybrid SUVs fall out of the grid. The bonus is of course not inexhaustible. So the sum will be available up to a maximum of 2020. If it is exhausted earlier, there is no lookup. With a boom, you should quickly decide whether you are ready for electric mobility.

The infrastructure, on the other hand, should be, after all, a good 300 million euros should flow into the expansion of the electricity network to ensure that you can travel longer distances with your Stromer. The remaining 600 million euros will go towards the premium itself. Plug-in hybrids that are subsidized include the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV or the Toyota Prius plug-in, Fully electric vehicles that are subsidized with 4.000 euros are, for example, the Kia Soul EV, the Nissan Leaf - as already mentioned above - or just that BMW i3, Perhaps this instrument actually means that we as pedestrians should soon keep our eyes open even more. Just in case a Stromer comes silently pounded.
