The engines of the new C-Class

Mercedes-Benz will offer three engines for the market launch of the new C-Class:

At the start there is only “home cooking”. Four-cylinder engines with turbocharging and direct injection. Twice as gasoline, once as diesel.

The petrol engine has the designation M270 DE 16 AL and is a compact all-aluminum engine with a basic weight of 137 kg. The diesel engine bears the designation OM651 and has a crankcase made of gray cast iron and an aluminum cylinder head. The diesel engine has two turbochargers that are connected in series.

Further variants and expansion stages will follow in the future. So shortly after launch, Mercedes will introduce a new 1.6 liter single-stage diesel engine with 115 and 136 PS. This engine comes from the cooperation with Renault and was slightly revised for use in the Mercedes.

In addition, Mercedes will offer the proven 2.2 liter four-cylinder diesel from its own development in a version with only single-stage charging (C220) and 115 PS. Later, the bi-turbo diesel C250 is offered with 204 PS in the new C-Class.

For the four-cylinder gasoline engines, the power range will go from 156 PS to 238 PS. Among them is a C180 ECO-Edition, which was awarded the efficiency class A and promises particularly low fuel consumption and emissions.

Even a six-cylinder with 333 PS is already considered binding.

Hybrid with diesel and petrol engines

In addition, Mercedes-Benz will offer a diesel engine combined with a hybrid module, as it did in the S and E class. The C 300 BlueTEC HYBRID 150 + 20 kW (204 + 27 PS) with a four-cylinder diesel engine and a compact e-machine, combined with 3,9 liter of diesel fuel, combined to NEDC (provisional value). Another particularly economical hybrid model, which will follow later, will feature state-of-the-art plug-in technology.

But also the friends of the Power Group will not forget. Mercedes will also offer the new C-Class in an extremely powerful AMG version. Maybe even with 4matic in series? The upcoming Mercedes C63 AMG should have at least 500 PS and almost 800 Nm torque.

Generally, all C-classes have rear-wheel drive. An optional 4matic four-wheel drive version will follow later. Initially, 6 gearboxes and the well-known 7 automatic gearbox are offered. For the future is the use of the new 9 automatic gearbox on the program.
