The 10 most beautiful alpine passes for cruising

An overview of the 10 most beautiful Alpine passes

When the snow has to give way to the sun's rays and the blue sky is not clouded by a cloud, then there are routes with a unique flair. We're talking about alpine passes, perfect for cruising. Reason enough to take a look at the 10 most beautiful Alpine passes.

Stelvio Pass

Let's start with the pass of passes, because it was not for nothing that the pass road was named Driving Heaven by "Top Gear" in 2008. Unique views of the entire eastern serpentine as well as several glaciers are offered. You can't drive past this view without stopping and being amazed.

Grimselpass

With its rugged cliffs, picturesque villages and embedded lakes, the Grimsel Pass offers so many impressions that you can hardly help but be amazed. But that's not the only reason why it is one of the 10 most beautiful alpine passes, but also because of the possibility of continuing directly to the Furka and then to the Sustenpass. A unique experience!

Silvretta High Alpine Road

The so-called "Dream Road of the Alps" with its majestic mountain views and the Vermunt and Silvretta reservoirs not only brings driving fun in the mountains, but also uniquely beautiful landscapes. While the western driveway gains a fair amount of height with 25 hairpin bends, the eastern driveway is unusually straight and thus brings pure relaxation for the driver with it.

Giau pass

50 hairpin bends over 15 kilometers and an almost endlessly climbing road make the Giau Pass something very special for every driver. Here the driver is required to have some skill, but in return you get pure driving pleasure. After the "climb" you will be rewarded with a fantastic view of Monte Civetta.

Gotthard Pass

You can cruise endlessly through the Alps over a distance of 110 kilometers on the Gotthardt Pass. The cobbled Tremola passage awaits on the southern flank, forcing the driver to drive at a leisurely pace in order to enjoy the magnificent view.

Col du Galibier

This pass road is known and feared above all by cyclists. As one of the most difficult stages of the Tour de France, the pass road gained worldwide attention. Sheer vertical steep slopes and the view of the imposing peaks of the French Alps make this pass a must for all drivers.

Grossglockner High Alpine Road

The highest mountain in Austria not only lures with a gigantic view, but also with serpentines on which it is easier to cruise than on some autobahns. Sports car drivers will love it here! But the pass road offers another treat for all car fanatics with the permanent exhibition 125 Years of Automobilism. The toll of €36,50 is definitely a good investment.

San Bernardino Pass

On its 100 kilometers, the San Bernardino Pass surprises with a wide variety of landscapes. While initially cruising comfortably through endlessly long forests, you will later pass the fascinating Viamala Gorge and drive through high alpine areas at the top of the pass.

Col de L'Iseran

One would think that the highest pass in the Alps is dangerous, rugged and not for cruising. But the exact opposite is the case. The well-developed road hardly exceeds 8% in gradient and is therefore perfect for a spectacular drive through the Alps. Above all, reaching the top of the pass is unique and takes your breath away. But you have to be lucky, because on many days the pass is cloudy.

Reschen pass

Characterized by its landmark, the sunken church tower, the Reschen Pass not only offers a top sight, but also driving fun that you can't help but wave at. The wide pass roads invite you to cruise and ensure relaxed "climbing".
