Company car bonus for plug-in hybrids costs 130 million euros

The halved company car tax makes the only limited climate-friendly plug-in hybrids attractive. The controversial funding costs the state millions.

The tax benefits for company cars with the controversial plug-in hybrid drive (PHV) have cost the state around 130 million euros so far. This is what the federal government said at the request of parliament. She estimates the number of vehicles affected by the relief at around 95.000.

The A monetary benefit must be paid to a PHV company car since 2019 not taxed with one, but only 0,5 percent of the vehicle list price. The federal government wants to ensure the rapid spread of e-mobility. This results in a company car bonus for the users of the vehicle.

The regulation is under criticism due to the controversial climate impact of the vehicles. Plug-in hybrids only have a relatively short electrical range and are therefore dependent on regular charging. Studies suggest that this is rarely done, especially by company car users. Benefit in addition to the 0,5 percent rule PHEVs also from the environmental bonus. Both funding measures also apply to an e-car - critics of the PHV want to limit them to these.
