A car for do-gooders? The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

The turn of the year is the time when the electricity bill comes in. This year we have moved, in the new house, there is still no own PV system on the roof. Dumm, Because as a PHEV driver, you naturally charge the batteries of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV also and especially at home. At this point we do not advertise our electricity supplier, the only important thing is: We buy green electricity. To 100%. On the invoice, the electricity operator confirms the environmental impact of our electricity tariff: 0.00 grams of CO2 in 2015. Nuclear power may be CO2-free, but do I have 100% confidence in the technology? No. As students we have "The Cloud ”by Gudrun Pausenwang read. It was about a nuclear accident in the Grafenrheinfeld nuclear power plant. The result? Not only after Fukushima and Chernobyl? A very personal fear of nuclear power. The technology may be ingenious, but as long as people work with it, there is no 100% security. And Grafenrheinfeld? Only an hour away from us by car. When the electricity operator confirms to me in black and white: “Radioactive waste: 0.000g per kWh drawn, then - yes, I think that's good.

Do you become a “do-gooder” just because you drive a PHEV and buy green electricity?

The thoughts on the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - the endurance tester leads to the word of the year.

Today everything is discussed on Facebook. And so I also put an article about my electricity bill online. The luxury of “eco-energy” costs me 32.09 cents per kWh and I know - there is dutzendfach criticism of the EEG - and many bright minds act differently because of this. Electricity is a massive cost factor in many people's everyday lives. The desire “not to pay too much” immediately makes us squint for price comparisons and cheap offers. And so the first comment was not long in coming. I'm a do-gooder if I like to overpay.

A good guy, because the Outlander PHEV is fed with eco-electricity?

The term do-gooder has made 2015 the nonsense of the year. However, in the context of a completely different debate. gooder, a terminology that is not meant positively. But I stand up for it. If you want to support the success of the PHEV in individual mobility, then no CO2 must be generated when generating the electricity. To produce nuclear waste, to pass on the concerns to the offspring? That can not be an alternative either.

And the "rip off" by that EEG surcharge?

For the calculation of the maintenance costs of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV we use 32.09 cents per kWh. For us that currently means € 260 in electricity costs with a consumption of around 83,43 kWh of electricity per month. CO2-free! In addition, 3.68 liters per 100 km of petrol are currently added.

The current billing for the month of January will be a little more complicated. We wrote it, the original test outlander has one Undergo “cold” deformation have to let go. The replacement Outlander started with a new mileage, so we will start the consumption data again after the first full month.

But back to the topic:

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV does not make me a good guy. But I think if you want to take advantage of the PHEV concept, you have to think the idea through to the end. CO2-free energy is only one size. With the EEG and the tariffed CO2 freedom in the electricity tariff, the desire for sustainable mobility does not become easier - but in addition to the option of producing the electricity yourself, this variant remains the only viable option.

In the end, I want to say: at least I tried. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV therefore continues to be the most meaningful answer when asked: What is the practical and family-friendly SUV with which you can maximally reduce CO2 emissions?

Without a good-man attitude!
