On June 24th this year, a Bentley will take part in what is probably America's toughest mountain race. The two-time Pikes Peak winner Rhys Millen is driving a 600 hp Bentley Bentayga on this day and wants to break the record for series SUVs with the luxury SUV. The New Zealander takes part in this legendary mountain race in a special Bentayga edition.
Rhys Millen has to climb the 156 corner mountain course in the state of Colorado Springs at an average speed of 100 km/h to set a new record. But Bentley is used to exposing its vehicles to extreme conditions. A Bentley Continental GT shot over ice at more than 330 km/h. And also on sand, the Continental GT Speed broke a top speed of 290 km/h on a stage of the World Rally Championship.
Bentley Bentayga Pikes Peak
The Bentley Bentayga was prepared for the Pikes Peak race by the Bentley Motorsport department from Crewe. The 600 hp Bentayga, with its W12 engine and 900 Nm of torque, is specially tuned. It has a roll cage, racing seats and racing harnesses. In addition, there is a tailor-made exhaust system that was already used on the Bentley Continental GT3-R.
The Bentley Bentayga Pikes Peak features a full carbon body kit. The New Zealander wants to take on the challenge of the nearly 20-kilometer hill climb in Bentley's own "Radium Satin" paint finish. His father has already brought home five overall victories on the 4.301 meter high Pikes Peak. He himself won the legendary mountain race in 2012 and 2015.
