A Toyota for the underworld

Actually, the Toyota Land Cruiser is considered a classic summiteer. In an electric version, however, it is supposed to rummage deep underground.

Toyota's Land Cruiser is a classic representative of the heat engine group. But Huber Automotive, based near Göppingen, converts the four-wheel veteran into a modern, emission-free electric vehicle on request. Run-E Electric Cruiser is the name of the result, which so far has only been allowed to enter very special terrain.

The Swabians have already converted a few Land Cruisers to Stromer. In the latest expansion stage based on the Land Cruiser J7, a 90 kW / 122 PS and 1.410 Newton-meter electric motor is used. Huber specifies a top speed of 130 km / h, and the maximum range with the 35 kWh battery is 150 kilometers. However, the values relate to road use. Off-road use should be 80 to 100 kilometers and the drive should enable a top speed of 15 km / h on inclines of 35 percent. The latter information is particularly interesting for customers because the Run-E Electric Cruiser is primarily used in mines. In addition to its high off-road mobility, its restraint in terms of noise and exhaust emissions are an advantage there.

According to Huber Automotive, the Run-E Electric Cruiser is TÜV-certified and can generally be individually approved in accordance with Section 21 StVZO. However, there are two components that do not have a manufacturer approval for road approval in connection with this vehicle type, although there is definitely an approval for this in other applications, says Huber. The Electric Cruiser is expected to receive LOF approval (agriculture and forestry) as a tractor unit at the end of January.

Incidentally, the electric off-roader is not cheap. Since these are custom-made products, the price of which can vary depending on the equipment of the vehicle and any optional packages, the Swabians cite "around 100.000 euros" as a rough guide for a complete vehicle.
