In the United States, the electric car has finally left the niche. The competent authority reports a psychologically important record value for the stock.
The United States is an electric car millionaire. In October 2018, the one millionth electric vehicle was newly registered, as reported by the National Office for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The first electric cars and plug-in hybrids hit the streets in the United States at the end of 2010, but until 2012 monthly sales remained below the 5.000 mark. Since May 2018, the number of new registrations has exceeded 20.000 units, and in September there was a record 45.000 vehicles. In Germany, the stock of pure e-cars and plug-in hybrids was 98.280 vehicles at the beginning of the year. In the meantime, the 100.000 mark will be clearly exceeded. Most e-mobiles are likely to be found in China, experts estimate their number at over 1,2 million. There are currently more than three million electric cars on the road worldwide.
