Electric XC40 costs € 60.000

Volvo's first electric car is not a bargain: to start, the XC40 Recharge costs more than its larger corporate brother from Polestar.

The first Volvo electric car is now available at prices starting at € 62.000. The compact SUV XC40 Recharge is powered by two electric motors with a total of 300 kW / 408 hp and is said to have a range of 78 kilometers (WLTP) thanks to a 400 kW battery. The battery is filled with a charging capacity of up to 150 kilowatts (DC). The model should qualify for the environmental bonus of 5.475 euros gross for cars with a list price below 77.350 euros (gross).

At the start, the Recharge model is only available in the relatively high-positioned “R-Design” sports equipment - cheaper versions will follow. In addition to dynamic optical details, there is also an active lane keeping assistant with counter-steering function, a new generation of the Volvo infotainment system based on Android and a 250-watt audio system.

The drive technology is taken over by the Volvo from the group brother Polestar 2; the mid-size sedan with crossover elements will be available from spring and will initially cost from 58.800 euros. Other competitions in the compact to medium-sized electric SUV segment include the upcoming Mercedes EQA, the BMW iX3 and the Tesla Model Y.
