New electric car registrations - Renault Zoe back on top

At the top of the e-car bestseller list, Renault Zoe and Tesla Model 3 are fighting head-to-head. The little French did better in April.

The small car Renault Zoe was Germany's most popular electric car in April with 939 new registrations. The BMW i3 with 734 units followed in second place from the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), and third place went to Tesla's Model 3 last month, which rolled onto the road 514 times. The Top 5 are completed by the VW E-Golf with 489 and the Smart Fortwo with 428 new registrations.

Statistics for the current year lead the Tesla Model 3 with 3.699 new registrations just ahead of the Renault Zoe with 3.656 units. This is followed by the 2.715 newly registered BMW i3. The VW E-Golf with 1.735 new registrations and the Hyundai Kona with 1.271 units clearly missed the podium. In total, 20.669 electric cars were newly registered in Germany in the first four months, 4.768 of them in April. The numbers could have been higher, but many models have very long delivery times.
