Electric car dictionary: battery

With the electric car, new words and concepts seep into everyday automotive language. You should know some of them especially as an e-mobilist.

What would an e-vehicle be without its battery? After all, it supplies the electricity for the drive. A rechargeable battery or accumulator is a rechargeable storage device for electrical energy on an electrochemical basis. In the narrower sense, the term accumulator or rechargeable battery means only a single storage cell, but in general the interconnected storage elements as they occur in electric cars are also referred to as “accumulators”. The term “battery” is also common for this, even if it was and is used historically or in technical language in a somewhat more restricted sense. Often used to mean “non-rechargeable battery”. Ultimately, “battery” can be understood as a generic term that includes non-rechargeable storage batteries as well. In many cases, both terms are used synonymously today, the more precise “battery” is only recommended when specifically emphasizing rechargeability.
