Electric car plans at VW - initially no small e-car at a budget price

VW will start its electric offensive next year. An inexpensive small car is initially not planned.

VW wants to quickly expand its ID electric car family, but there will probably not be a cheap city electric car at first. "I believe that it will take one and a half battery generations before the prices are at a level that corresponds to today's small cars," said Jürgen Stackmann, Sales Director, curbing expectations for an ID model in the 20.000 euro class.

Before an ID.1 or ID.2 could start, VW relies on larger models. In mid-2020, the compact, at least 30.000 euro ID.3 will be the first car from Wolfsburg to be designed entirely as an electric vehicle. The compact SUV ID Crozz, the minibus ID Buzz and a large electric sedan based on the model of the ID Vizzion study soon followed. Similar models have been announced for the sister companies Seat and Skoda.
