In Dubrovnik, the pearl of the Adriatic, I was able to take a closer look at the new Nissan Micra. According to the manufacturer, this has become more efficient, safer and more spacious. Since on driving events the consumption determination is more difficult and I can not test the security either, I concentrate on the space, the processing, the technology and the first driving impression.

The fifth generation of the Japanese small car is in my opinion a real eye-catcher. Compared to its predecessor, he could be a bestseller. Not quite as round and cute, sportier and flatter he is.

Through the black B and C columns, the roof seems to float. Overall, it is simply larger with just under 4 m length, 1,45 m height, 1,93 m width including mirrors and a wheelbase of 2,52 m, which absolutely benefits the passengers: Especially in the front seats you have enough space in the new Micra, sits comfortably and can optimally adjust the seat and belt position in height, the steering wheel position in height and depth.

Due to the changed optics, especially with the C-pillar, the all-round visibility has become slightly worse, which makes me recommend the optional 360 ° camera or at least the parking aid.

Especially the new front has done to me, here, the manufacturer has installed next to the brand-typical "V-Motion" radiator grille and new headlights.

Rear spoiler provides the best possible downforce and a sporty appearance. Where we are at the rear: I do not like the high sill, because you, as with almost all small cars, the luggage must first lift over a level. The luggage compartment volume is between 300 and 1004 liters and is absolutely fine for me.

The deceleration is carried out by front disc brakes and drum brakes of sufficiently large size on the rear axle. Of those I'm not a big friend, because you can not see as a layman and outsiders, whether the pads are already at the wear limit, but that's not a topic for a new car so first.

If we look into the future, I see a more powerful engine, an 6 gearbox, LED light front and rear and possibly also an automated manual transmission. Currently covers Nissan with the new market probably 80% of customer requests, on the other 20% will be filing, I'm sure and the Nissan Micra is indeed recommended formally for a Nissan Micra Nismo, right?

Optics and haptics tell me too, the flattened down steering wheel, for example, is great in the hand and offers various, also easy to reach buttons

Between the front seats you will find a completely normal handbrake, which I like. Nothing electronic, just a handbrake lever. Point. There are enough ways to put things down. In addition to two cup holders in the center console and drinks compartments in the door pockets, there is also a small glove compartment.

Charging options for the smartphone are not as often available, as I would wish, in addition to an 12 power outlet and an Aux-In port, there is unfortunately only one USB port. Otherwise, the small car offers a lot, some standard, on. There is, for example, an automatic climate control system, a Bose sound system, a modern infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Co., an 360 ° camera, the active Lane Keeping Assist, the high-beam assistant and traffic sign recognition.
Attention: Currently there is Apple Car Play only in the Acenta equipment, but that should change soon.

My little criticism to Lane Keeping Assistants: He does not direct the Nissan Micra, but he corrected by a braking intervention. Something is better now. By the way, the new Micra has ISOFIX and manual power windows on the rear outer seats. This avoids the Einklemmschutzproblematik, makes me as a family man, however, not just happier.

It only offers sufficient headroom in the rear seats for people under 1,80, there is definitely more space in the front and small vehicles are usually only moved by one person. By the way, the manufacturer also justifies the fact that only the driver's seat is adjustable in height. The steering wheel can be adjusted in height and depth, there is also a belt height adjustment - so every driver should find a comfortable driving position.

Regarding driving behavior, I can only say that I have nothing bad to say, considering that this is a small car at a very reasonable entry-level price. The steering is direct, the chassis is well coordinated and the brakes are sufficiently large. This is 12.990 euros, making it a little more expensive than its own predecessor. With the large petrol engine and a few equipment features, you would rather pay 20.000 euros and more, so the better equipment lines are recommended, because some features are already included, except for Apple Car Play - which personally makes me very sad.

And finally ... What you can get today, don't postpone it until tomorrow. You should avoid putting something on the back burner. So I think it's a shame that Nissan doesn't offer some features right from the market launch. However, if you don't want this at all, you have a very good small car here that doesn't have to hide from its competitors. With the 0,9 liter 3-cylinder, it is sufficiently powerfully motorized for its curb weight of just under 1,1 tons.
