Porsche Speedsters have always been in great demand. So it is not surprising that there is also an enormous demand for the new two-seater despite a price of just under 270.000 Euro. But the production is limited to 1.948 units.

This Porsche Speedster has a long lead time. Already 2013 had the idea to produce the open GT-based Porsche with an extremely flat rear end. "The first design sketches were ultimately the door opener for us to be able to implement the 911 Speedster project for the 991 series," says Jörg Jünger, project manager for GT road vehicles at the Zuffenhausen sports car manufacturer.

The result is a car that puts the Porsche brand values ​​to the point, according to Jünger. "The Speedster combines purism, athleticism, lightweight construction, unfiltered driving pleasure and a high degree of exclusivity." The latter is not only based on the price of just under 270.000 Euro. The production is limited to exactly 1.948 copies, which have probably all been ordered long ago. The limitation is derived from the year 1948. At that time, the ancestor of all Porsche sports cars celebrated its premiere with the 356 No. 1 Roadster. Six years later, the first true Speedster with an output of 110 PS and a maximum of 200 kilometers per hour follows quickly. Initially, the two-seater was available only in the US. The price: 2.999 dollars.

The flat-shaped rear lid is made of carbon and weighs only ten kilograms

The basic idea of ​​the then car is to be continued with the Speedster year 2019. This is on the one hand, the appearance and here compared to the previous model from the year 2010 much flatter shaped boot lid. Underneath the lid is the roof construction, which can be opened or closed in no time at all, with a cloth top suitable for everyday use. The windscreen is five centimeters lower than the GT models of the finally expiring with the Speedster 991 series. Like the boot lid, the bonnet and fenders are also made of carbon. While the 991 R was being raided here, the front apron comes from the 911 GT3, the extendable rear spoiler from the GT3 Touring.

Inside, the Speedster purism radiates in pure culture

However, Porsche offers communication management including online navigation, voice control and smartphone preparation, the Connect Plus module and the 150 Watt strong sound package plus system with eight speakers and amplifiers at no extra cost.

The empty weight of 1.465 kilograms increases a little and the power-to-weight ratio of 2,87 kilograms per horsepower should be a little worse. But the performance of the four-liter six-cylinder known from the GT3 does not detract from this. The 510 hp of the naturally aspirated engine - ten more than in the GT3 - is at a speed of 8.400 revolutions per minute. A maximum of 9.000 tours are possible. The highest torque of 470 Newton meters is available at 6.250 revolutions. The power is transmitted via a crisp, tuned manual six-speed transmission with very short shifting distances. This results in acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h in four seconds. At the top, 310 kilometers per hour are possible.

The increased injection pressure compared to the GT3 by 50 on 250 bar noticeably improves the response of the engine. Unbelievable, with what force it already goes forward with the gentle pressure on the gas pedal. This dynamic keeps the vacuum cleaner in all tempo areas. Even far beyond the mark 200 the stomach is pressed against the spine during the violent acceleration. The engine plays perfect even without opening the throttle at the touch of a button, the entire keyboard of a nipple. It roars, it hisses, it mumbles - depending on which key the gas foot chooses.

Inside, the Speedster features black leather trim and carbon fiber full-shell seats

Unlike the GT3, the Speedster has two particulate filters, fulfilling the standard Euro 6d-temp. Incidentally, the exhaust system with its classic twin tailpipe weighs ten kilograms less than the GT3 despite the two filters. A weight reduction that has a positive effect on the balance between the front and rear axles.

The chassis is based on the technology of the GT3, is designed with mechanical rear cross-lock, rear axle steering and dynamic engine mounts completely on sport. Here, the technicians have adapted all control systems such as variable torque distribution or active damper system including lowering by 2,5 centimeters to the two-seater. Thanks to the extremely precise steering, it can be moved around the corners on the 20-alloy wheels even with a really brisk ride. Pure driving pleasure. Corresponding deceleration values ​​are provided by perforated and ventilated ceramic brakes as standard.

At the top, 310 kilometers per hour are feasible

Optionally, Porsche offers a heritage design package for the Speedster. It incorporates historical elements from the 1950 and 60 years - such as the classic bi-color leather interior of the interior, which sets visual accents with numerous elements in cognac. Nostalgic memories then awaken the special exterior paint. It combines the classic GT silver metallic with a partially offset in white front section in the so-called "Spears" look, which continues on the fenders to the A-pillars. The white motorsport graphics in the Heritage design on the doors and the bonnet give the 911 Speedster a special character. They are reminiscent of historic 356 Speedsters that their owners used to drive at Porsche Club races. The maximum two-digit start numbers shown in the diagram can be freely selected. 21.634 Euro calls the sports car manufacturer for. And if you want to decorate yourself with a suitable chronograph, you need to plan for more 9.950 Euro. Porsche Design Timepieces makes 1.948 copies either as "911 Speedster" or "911 Speedster Heritage Design". Only one watch can be ordered per car.
