The Fiat 500 was previously only in the US as an electric car. This could change soon.
Fiat plans an electric version of the small car 500. The battery-powered city car will be built at the Turin plant, which will be prepared for 2021 production of a small electric car platform, as Fiat Chrysler announced. The technology will then be used for other models of the Group brands. Overall, the Italians want to 2022 four pure e-cars and 10 models with plug-in hybrid drive on the market. Also announced is a mild hybrid version of the small car Panda.
The electric 500 comes with a significant delay. Already 2008 Fiat had presented the near-series study of a corresponding model, 2010 there was another concept vehicle with technology of the new corporate partner Chrysler. In the series, however, the car has only 2012, made only in small numbers and only in the US - although the popular retro city car seems almost predestined in Europe for the electrification.
