Ford Ranger Raptor

Ford has upgraded the Ranger to an off-road car at great expense. The new top variant also breaks new ground with the drive.

Ford also in the new generation of pick-ups Cleaning a powerful Raptor model. But this time not with a diesel engine, but with a twin-turbo V6 petrol engine. The three-liter engine has an output of 288 hp and 491 Nm of torque and comes in a package with an adapted chassis, permanent four-wheel drive and axle locks. Prices start at 77.338 euros (net: 64.990 euros).

Some new

Unlike the previous pick-up, the Raptor version does not come as a crowning glory, but as a confident harbinger. Before the civilian diesel models with four and six cylinders start in early 2023, the top model will be available from dealers by the end of 2022. In addition to the new engine, a ten-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive are part of the equipment. A switchable variant is used in the standard models, which is likely to be inferior in terms of driving dynamics on paved roads. As a further specialty in the powertrain, the Raptor comes with an off-road reduction and differential locks for the front and rear axles. The driver can also choose from seven electronically controlled driving programs, including four off-road programs including a "Baja" mode for a rally feeling off the beaten track.

Off-road as standard

When it comes to the chassis, Ford relies on large spring deflections and a front axle with light-alloy wishbones and adaptive rally shock absorbers that are filled with Teflon oil and are said to be less prone to overheating. The rear dampers are also electronically controllable and can be stiffened to prevent rear end sinking. Standard off-road tires and underride protection elements on the radiator, transmission and engine round off the off-road range. Other features include LED matrix headlights, a sound system and the new infotainment system with a large upright screen.

Since mid-2019, the expiring Ranger generation has featured a Raptor variant that was previously reserved for the brand's large US trucks. The platform truck, which is powered by a 157 kW/213 hp four-cylinder diesel engine also known from other Ranger models, had more of the character of a special model, and the new edition has a much more independent design.
