In addition to electric luxury SUVs and sports cars, Audi plans to build mass-produced cars with electric drives in the future. A first model can be seen as a study in Geneva - if only in an expensive, high-performance version.
Audi also relies on group technology for its electric offensive. The Q7 E-Tron study at the Geneva Motor Show (March 17th to 4th) shows what the first Ingolstadt model based on the VW electrical kit could look like. The production car is scheduled to start at the end of 2020 as the brand's fifth electric car - and will be the first E-Tron model to keep an eye on the European normal driver
Visually, the compact E-SUV will be based on the already launched Audi E-Tron, which is not yet based on the electrical kit, but is essentially a Q5 converted to an electric drive. Unlike this, the Q4 should take full advantage of the space advantages of the new drive technology and create an above-average amount of space from a floor space of 4,59 x 1,90 meters. The seating comfort for the passengers should also benefit from the fact that, unlike models with a combustion engine, the cardan tunnel can be dispensed with.
The drive uses two electric motors in the study, one on the front axle and the other on the rear axle. Together they form a four-wheel drive and provide 225 kW / 306 horsepower. They receive power from a 82 kWh battery, which should enable a range of more than 450 kilometers. The energy storage system is charged with up to 125 kW of power. In the series variant, such a technology combination could be the tip of the offer, thanks to modular design, there will certainly be more civilian variants with a smaller battery and only one engine.
The Q4 E-Tron is one of the most important components of the e-car strategy of the VW subsidiary. With the E-Tron on Q5 basis, the Ingolstadt have recently launched their first model at the start, which will soon be flanked by the crossover coupe E-Tron Sportback. Then follows only intended for China mini-SUV Q2L E-Tron, before 2020 launches the jointly developed with Porsche E-Tron GT. Shortly thereafter followed by the Q4 E-tron, which is likely to be the best selling of all models. Other cars based on the VW electric construction kit and the Audi-Porsche architecture will soon follow. Until 2025 Audi wants to have twelve pure electric vehicles on the road.
