Current news about the race:

24h: Starter list for the race of the year published

• 138 vehicles start at the ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring

• A strong top class fights for victory in the anniversary race

• Manthey-Racing is defending the title with a Porsche 911 GT3 R

Now the cards are on the table: With the publication of the provisional starter list for the ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring (May 26-29), it is clear which teams will compete at the Ring to win this particularly prestigious edition of the endurance classic. 138 teams, including 36 teams alone in the overall winning classes SP9 (FIA GT3) and SP-X, will be at the start of the longest race of the year on the most demanding race track in the world. The winner's glass trophy is of particular value this time, as it is the 50th edition of the traditional race. The anticipation among drivers, fans and officials is also great because, just in time for the big anniversary, the spectator seats will also be open again without restrictions: the fight between the best long-distance teams and drivers for the Nordschleife crown will finally take place again in front of a large crowd. Admission tickets for the ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring are available in advance from the Nürburgring ticket shop at www.nuerburgring.de. The starter list and a lot of other information - especially for everyone who is planning a visit to the 24h - is available on the Internet at www.24h-rennen.de.

At the 1th edition of the 50h, starting number #24 naturally belongs to last year's winners: With Michael Christensen and Kevin Estre, Manthey Racing is sending two of the winning drivers back into the race in the Porsche 911 GT3 R, who will be joined by Frédéric Makowiecki and Laurens Vanthoor. Both teams will also fight for victory with Rowe Racing (two BMW M4 GT3 #98 and #99) and the Mercedes-AMG Team GetSpeed (two Mercedes-AMG GT3 #3 and #4), who won the two prologues -Race as part of the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers shared. Audi was also represented on the podium of the 24h Qualifers - by the Lionspeed by Car Collection Motorsport team (P3 in race 2), which competes with the #23. In addition, Audi Sport Team Phoenix (#15) also represents the Phoenix squad from Ingolstadt, which in the winning statistics with five overall 24-hour victories behind Manthey is the second most successful of all time in the 24-hour race. There is certainly no shortage of favorites in the giant field, and there are also countless exciting constellations in the many competitive classes from top to amateur sport.

Balanced opportunities ensure exciting sport

Lately it seemed to be the BMW teams who have the advantage on the Nordschleife this year. Rowe Racing and the BMW Junior Team were in top form at the 24h Qualifiers and certainly traveled home with a lot of additional motivation. But even if the chances of winning on the Nordschleife this season are in favor of one manufacturer, depending on the form of the day, the weather and the racing fortunes, the question of who is the top favorite is difficult to answer. “All manufacturers will be on an equal footing in the 24-hour race, I’m sure of that,” analyzes Max Hesse (BMW Junior Team) and adds with a subtle smile: “During preparation, we showed everything that’s in the BMW M4 GT3 – what the other manufacturers have made, we can of course not answer. We focus on ourselves.” It has been considered “good form” on the Nordschleife for years that not every team from every manufacturer shows what it's capable of during the 24-hour preparation. But the constant evaluation of the extensive data logging during this phase ensures that the regulations experts have a good idea of the true balance of power: For years, this has ensured extremely balanced opportunities at 24h, a lot of brand diversity in the top positions and extremely exciting races. "In the BoP we have a few adjustment screws and we will still fine-tune nuances before the 24h", reveals race director Walter Hornung after the findings from the 24h qualifiers have been evaluated. “If necessary, we can even make improvements ourselves over the 24-hour weekend. Because a balanced field guarantees the most exciting sport for the spectators.”

Full program in front of full ranks

The official program at the Nürburgring begins on Wednesday afternoon in the center of Adenau. In the racing city on the Ring there is again the "Adenauer Racing Day" with racing drivers and vehicles, among which many legendary participants from the past 49 editions of the race mix this time. The wheels will be turning as early as Thursday morning (May 26). After the traditional start with an RCN performance test, the qualifying and practice sessions follow one another. The spectator areas will be well filled by then, because "advance ticket sales are going pretty well", as race director Walter Hornung knows. The camping areas around the Nordschleife are open again after a forced two-year break, and many fans are also looking forward to being part of the most beautiful motorsport festival of the year again. "I'm really looking forward to the 24h, the fans will tear their hats down," believes Maximilian Götz (Mercedes-AMG Team GetSpeed). Especially since there is so much on offer to the visitors. The traditional highlights, such as the Falken Drift Show in the Müllenbachschleife on Friday evening, are joined by program items relating to the 24-hour anniversary. This includes, for example, the exhibition of automotive 24h legends on the ring°boulevard and a big get-together for former 24h overall winners (of course combined with an autograph session). In this environment, the visitors turn night into day, ensure an incomparable festival atmosphere and are an important part of the show - not least the active people know that. Maximilian Götz reveals: "Even though I'm here to give my best performance as a racing driver, I'm also a fan of the Nürburgring and the event. I will also try to enjoy the atmosphere at the 24h.”

Typical 24h Nürburgring. Everything is bigger, longer, more extensive here than anywhere else. The visitors on site benefit from this just as much as the fans at home. Whether you enjoy the 24 hours in the record-breaking live broadcast from free TV partner NITRO or zaps into the official live stream - one thing is certain: you won't miss a second of the action. This is ensured by the largest motorsport live TV production in Europe. And you can also enjoy the live report from the speaker booth everywhere, because it can not only be received on the ring at 87,7 Mhz, but also worldwide via the RPR1.App!

For the anniversary year, the already gigantic TV production was expanded again. Seven additional cameras are now in use, increasing the arsenal to a total of over 60 cameras. This can expand the range from which live images can be captured. Up to now there have only been pictures of the race from stationary cameras since Wippermann, but the zone is now significantly longer. The area from the steep section is already being recorded, finally complete with the passage through the carousel. There, a camera on a swivel arm promises spectacular images. A 50-meter climb on the Hohe Acht also provides almost a bird's-eye view of the Klostertal curve and the approach to the Hohe Acht. The rope camera at the start and finish has also been lengthened again (now 734 m). It flies at up to 120 km/h directly above the action from start/finish to behind the chicane after the Yokohama-S. 14 vehicles are also equipped with up to two cameras each and deliver spectacular images directly from the cockpit day and night. As I said: Everything is bigger than elsewhere or – as one of the planners once said: “The Nordschleife is just not a football stadium”.

NITRO wants the world record!

When presenter Laura Papendick presents the live broadcast of NITRO at 13:40 p.m. on Saturday, a marathon of its own begins for the Cologne-based broadcaster's team of around 60 people. Roland Hofmann, Peter Reichert, Dirk Adorf and Lukas Gajewski sit at the microphone in the 27-hour show and start the attempt to break the record for the longest TV broadcast of a live sports event, which was set for the first time in 2016 and was last improved again in 2017 to be surpassed once more. NITRO currently holds the broadcast world record with exactly 26 hours and 20 minutes (2017). The record institute for Germany is there and will hopefully confirm at the end: Never before has a TV station broadcast a sporting event live! To manage the production, NITRO has assembled an excellent team, which includes reporters such as Eve Scheer, Anna Nentwig, Lina van de Mars, Marcel Klein, Felix Görner, Jakob Passlick, Felix Kohler and Alexander Schropp. Christian Menzel and Dirk Adorf will be added as experts, the latter will also be behind the wheel in the BMW legends and in the 24h. “Among other things, I will report to the 24h from the race cockpit. Nürburgring and 24h - that is my home and pure passion. The most beautiful event in the world,” he says. Oliver Schablitzki, Head of Multichannel at RTL Germany, is looking forward to the weekend with his team: "After two years of Corona, in which we worked out of the studio in Cologne, we are finally back on site and have big plans. The race is a unique experience on site, and we make it possible for everyone who stays at home to take part in this 'motorsport folk festival'.”
