Honda 2015: The Summer of Innovations

It's hard to talk, it was quiet for a long time about the world's largest engine manufacturer, especially in Germany the offer of new models was cut rather than expanded. In summer 2015, everything will change - this year HONDA will really step on the gas again!

HONDA Innovations 2015

The dry spell is over, HONDA is now really accelerating again. With the new small SUV HR-V, with a new generation Honda Jazz, the sportiest Civic Type-R of all time and a super sports car of the highest performance class. And in addition to the fireworks of the new presentations, HONDA does not forget the “mandatory program”.

HONDA CR-V - 9-speed automatic and new diesel engine

For the latest facelift on the HONDA SUV, the technicians in Japan have really set a goal. So they not only plant a new 1.6 liter of diesel under the bonnet, behind the lifted face is also immediately installed a new 9-speed automatic transmission.

The bi-turbo diesel in the CR-V produces 160 hp, together with the 9-speed automatic transmission from ZF, this results in a lively mixture for driving. The new aluminum motor delivered 350 Nm and from 2.000 tours it pushes against the empty weight of the SUV with complete conviction.

The large trunk of the CR-V remains even after the facelift a loading cave, here is neat space available and thanks to the foldable rear seats can be even more space to expand. At the end, up to 1.669 liters are available. Really a lot of space!

In the multimedia system, the Japanese have now also refilled. A new system based on Google's Android operating system promises 100% connectivity and limitless collaboration between the multimedia system and the driver's smartphone.

Here a later test will have to show how well the system works.

HONDA Civic - Sportier and more economical

For the Honda Civic, the manufacturer has devised and implemented an attractive facelift. The Japanese compact thus acts more dynamic and at the same time a trace more individual. The topic of individuality has never been an issue for the Civic.

The 160 PS Bi-Turbo Diesel from the CR-V HONDA is currently not available for the Civic, here tinkers above all the 1.6 liter single-turbo with 120 PS. In conjunction with the still-fresh 6-gear manual transmission, the performance is sufficient for economical but still brisk locomotion. Alternatively, there is the 1.8 liter gasoline engine with 142 PS.

Like the big brother CR-V, the Civic now also has an Android-based multimedia system in the center console. Navigation is option, the Bluetooth telephony is series. There is also a reversing camera and as a new security feature, a city emergency brake assistant.

The facelift offers a contemporary look for both the 5-door and the station wagon. The station wagon, which was designed in England and only for Europe, still offers the lowest loading sill in its class and a huge trunk. Both models have the Honda “Magic Seats” variability system in common, in which the seat surface of the rear seats can be folded up, leaving plenty of space for bulky items of luggage in row two.

The new girls

Even more important than the facelift for the CR-V and the CIVIC are the new models that Honda will bring this year. Next to the new one CIVIC Type-R (driving report) and the new one HONDA HR-V (driving report) HONDA Jazz will also be presented in a new generation. And then HONDA fans are looking forward to a novelty: The new HONDA NSX!

The new "compacts" at a glance:

Honda jazz

The third generation of the Honda Jazz had already shown itself to the public for the first time this year in Geneva in March, now the small car is to come to us in September. Honda praises the new as the little one with high variability and the best space in its class. Jazz will also make use of the offer of the Japanese manufacturer of security and infotainment systems.

The classic silhouette of jazz has been retained in the new model. With the new, sportier front end and the powerful lines, the newcomer was nevertheless given a striking design. Inside, high-quality materials and a sophisticated interior design underline a new ambition. In the center of the dashboard is the seven-inch touch screen of the new Honda Connect infotainment system, which provides quick access to a range of Internet services, including Internet browsing, real-time traffic information, breaking news, weather information, and Internet radio. Connect can be easily connected to the smartphone and other multimedia devices via Mirror Link, WLAN, Bluetooth, HDMI and USB.

Grown in the outer length by 95 mm, the new Jazz has a wheelbase extended by 30 mm and thus offers great leg, shoulder and headroom. The flatter fuel tank, located under the front seats, creates space under the back seats for Honda's innovative "Magic Seats", a system that folds the rear seat down with a lever and also folds the seats up to 90 degrees like a cinema chair. The boot volume of the Jazz offers 354 liters, which can be expanded by magic seats on 884 liter.

Because of the new platform, which shares the jazz with the equally new HR-V, the jazz is lighter than its predecessor and at the same time has a higher body rigidity. The revised suspension components (strut suspension at the front and an H-shaped torsion beam rear axle) are lighter and together with the extended wheelbase reduce the pitching movements. New damper systems transmit less vibration to the interior, and the electric power steering provides better response.

Under the bonnet is an 1,3 liter i VTEC petrol engine. Honda's innovative "Earth Dreams Technology" powertrain engine delivers 75 kW / 102 horsepower at 6000 revolutions per minute. Instead of the previous five-speed manual transmission, there is now a choice of a six-speed manual switch as a series or optionally a continuously variable CVT transmission.

The new Honda Jazz is equipped with a variety of active and passive safety systems. The active safety systems use a combination of camera and lidar technology. With the exception of the Trend basic version, all equipment lines come standard with Honda driver assistance systems. These include Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Warning System, Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition and High Beam Assistant. The City Emergency Brake Assistant is on board for all jazz. Honda HR-V

Coinciding with the new Honda Jazz, the crossover Honda HR-V will also be coming to dealers in September. With the jazz, he not only shares the appearance in the trade, but also the platform, but also the new infotainment system "Honda Connect", which is operated via a seven-inch touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard and numerous functions up to Internet browsing, breaking news, traffic and weather info, and music streaming features.

Honda Connect is based on the Android 4.0.4 operating system, but allows the integration of all smartphones and access to other multimedia devices via Mirror Link, WLAN, Bluetooth, HDMI and USB. The system also allows the use of Internet services and apps from the Honda App Center. This allows the driver to adapt the infotainment system to his personal preferences and also use the optional Garmin satellite navigation system. The display also provides a range of vehicle information such as trip odometer, fuel consumption and travel time.

Honda calls the HR-V a versatile space wonder. Maximum variability is ensured by the unique Honda Magic Seats, which allow you to fold the rear seats together. High-quality materials and an elegant design determine the interior. The Honda designers have succeeded in combining spaciousness with a sporty, comfortable interior. Also, the boot knows to convince: With folded rear seats already 453 liters are available. If the rear seats are folded down, the loading volume increases to 1026 liters.

With high-quality materials and discreet chrome elements, the HR-V sets accents in the interior. The driver looks at three instruments surrounded by apparently floating lighting rings, which emphasize the interior design. The Eco Assist function ensures that the ambient lighting of the speedometer changes from white to green when driving efficiently.

The compact SUV from Honda is available with an 1.6 i-DTEC diesel engine with 88 kW / 120 PS or an 1.5 i-VTEC petrol engine with 96 kW / 130 PS. Both engines come from Honda's "Earth Dreams Technology" drive generation. Both gasoline and diesel are standard with six-speed manual transmission. The 1.5 i-VTEC also completes the range with a continuously variable CVT transmission. The fuel consumption of the Honda HR-V is on average (according to NEDC) 5,7 l / 100 km (petrol) and 4,0 l / 100 km (diesel): The carbon dioxide emissions are correspondingly at 104 grams per km and 134 g / km.

The Honda HR-V is robust: Strictly drawn lines in the lower body area to convey the strength, stability and reliability of a larger SUV. The appearance is underlined by the strong horizontal orientation of the front and rear bumpers. The HR-V is a true crossover: the design is reminiscent of a coupe, while the rugged chassis reflects the powerful shape of an SUV. Its contours and a rearward-facing line of the rear side windows give it a dynamically-looking side profile, underlined in the back by "hidden" door handles. The design language continues in the rear area with sharply drawn taillights and the wide tailgate.

The HR-V also shows the "Solid Wing" design of the Honda model family. Like the new CR-V, the headlamps "merge" with the radiator grille through uniform lines. Another common feature is the lines of the rear side windows.

The new HR-V is equipped with a variety of active and passive safety systems. With the exception of the "Comfort" equipment line, all equipment variants come as standard with Honda's advanced driver assistance systems. Comprehensive safety systems include Adaptive Cruise Control, City Emergency Brake Assist, Collision Warning System, Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Detection and High Beam Assistant.
