Luxury Stromer from Williams and Italdesign

A hitherto unknown manufacturer announces the construction of electric sports cars or luxury sedans almost every week. So that these projects have a chance of being realized, two established developers are now getting involved.

In order to give investors quick access to the booming market for electrically powered luxury and sports cars, Williams Advanced Engineering (WAE) and Karossier Italdesign have developed the EVX supercar base. At its core, this is a chassis for battery-electric solutions with an 800-volt architecture, on which Italdesign can create sports coupes, SUVs, sedans or convertibles according to the customer's specifications.

One of the special features of the EVX platform developed by WAE is a battery box made of carbon fiber composite material in the center of the chassis, which also serves as a structural component with high torsional rigidity and to absorb crash energy. In addition, the wheelbase can be varied between 2,90 and 3,10 meters.

The drive system is also variable. Both rear and all-wheel drives are possible. A torque vectoring system developed by Williams can be integrated on request. Performance and ranges are also flexible. According to the WAE, the number 1.000 marks the limit. Performance drives with an output of up to 1.000 kW / 1.340 PS or, alternatively, ranges of up to 1.000 kilometers are possible. If maximum performance is required, battery packs from 104 to 120 kWh can be integrated. With less power, a battery with a capacity of up to 160 kWh and a range of up to 1.000 kilometers is possible. The 800-volt architecture allows fast charging from 300 to 500 kW.

Italdesign offers to design car bodies and interiors on the basis of the EVX platform and, if required, to take over vehicle production. Small series of up to 500 vehicles per year are feasible in the production halls of the design forge in Turin. Newcomers would have the opportunity to bring a new brand onto the market without having to build up production capacities. The EVX solution is also offered to established manufacturers. Mass production of up to 10.000 vehicles per year would be possible.
