Mazda: In-line six-cylinder announced - on premium course with new rear-wheel drive architecture

Mazda wants to position itself more strongly as a premium provider in the future. The aim is to help a new platform for large models with six-cylinder engines.

Mazda is planning a new architecture for larger models, in which a completely newly developed in-line six-cylinder is to be used. Officially, the Japanese carmakers announced the future project in their quarterly report. Accordingly, a second-generation Skyactiv diesel and a Skyactiv-X petrol engine are planned in this format. Thanks to compression ignition in one engine, Skyactiv-X combines the advantages of the petrol and diesel principle, which, among other things, brings efficiency advantages. The expected rear-wheel drive architecture should be compatible with all-wheel, 48-Volt hybrid and plug-in hybrid system. The six-wheeler with a cylinder gauge of probably 500 cubic centimeters could be used, among others, in new editions of the Mazda6, CX-5, CX-9 and a future sports car.
