Majority for combustion ban

Almost two thirds of Europe's metropolitan residents would be in favor of a sales ban for gasoline and diesel vehicles. In Germany, however, a narrow majority can be enthusiastic about it.

A majority of Europe's city dwellers want to ban the sale of diesels and petrol from 2030. According to a survey commissioned by the environmental organization “Transport & Environment”, 63 percent are in favor of only allowing locally emission-free vehicles in the future. 29 percent are against it, 8 percent have no opinion.

The combustion ban is particularly well received in cities with high traffic loads such as Rome (73 percent approval), Barcelona (74 percent) and Milan (73 percent). In the German metropolises of Hamburg and Berlin, 51 percent are in favor of stopping sales of gasoline and diesel vehicles from 2030. A total of 10.050 people from 15 major European cities in eight countries were surveyed.
