Mercedes CLA - The time has come in Detroit

When the North American International Automobile Show opens its doors in Detroit in mid-January, then not only will I be there to provide you with images and fresh news - no, the new four-door compact coupe from Mercedes-Benz will also be shown to the public catch sight of!

CLA world premiere in Detroit

At this point I want to briefly summarize what is known so far - for example, what is known is this new one compact coupe at the start will give away with four engine variants.

  • CLA 180 BlueEFFICIENCY
  • CLA 180 BlueEFFICIENCY
  • CLA 250 BlueEFFICIENCY
  • CLA 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY

Towards the end of 2013, Mercedes-Benz will then introduce two more models:

  • CLA 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY
  • CLA 250 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY

The 180 CLA gets 122 PS, the 200 CLA goes to the start with 156 PS, the CLA 250 skips the 200 PS mark by 11 horses and the only diesel available at market launch, the 220 CDI, will come with 170 PS.

The models only available in September, including the 200 diesel and the 250 variant with the Mercedes-Benz 4matic all-wheel drive, deliver 136 hp in the case of the “small diesel” and 211 hp in the case of the CLA 250 4matic, which is then driven by all four wheels Begin.

The internal designation of the model series is just as well known: C117 is the development code of the four-meter-sixty-long compact four-door coupé.

In addition to the all-wheel drive CLA and the basic diesel, a new top model will also see the light of day in autumn 2013:

The CLA 45 AMG

This compact sports car not only gets a 354 hp four-cylinder power unit developed by AMG in series production, but also the 4matic all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual clutch transmission!

A two-liter four-cylinder turbo engine with 354 hp - that would set a clear scent mark in the sporty compact car segment. As is typical for Mercedes, the dual clutch transmission is given an English name and is called “dual clutch transmission”. Or as Daimler says: DCT.

So in autumn 2013 there will be the first compact GTI with trunk and coupé side line from Mercedes-Benz.

Presumably, however, the range is not yet complete: Mercedes-Benz has even more engines waiting to be used. Including the engines from the collaboration with Renault, the 180 CDI with 109 hp - but a combination of 170 hp diesel (CLA 220 CDI) and 4matic drive may well be possible.

I'm looking forward to seeing the CLA in Detroit live and in color, even if I'm not really impressed with the shape so far (Jens blogged about the design by the wayt). Other car bloggers are much more into the CLA ... what does colleague Fabian mean?

Colleague Jan from auto-geil.de has already thought about the entertainment system in the CLA, which is just as useful to read! And Matthias from fahrrueckt.de compares the little one CLA with the CLS - So it's already going really well in the Blogsphere, all about the CLA..
