Mercedes GLC Coupé - The beautifully weird alternative

Coupés are no longer reserved for car models. SUVs with a steeply sloping roofline are in demand. This includes the Mercedes GLC Coupe, which has now been refreshed.

After Mercedes presented the revised GLC at this year's Geneva Motor Show, the Stuttgart show at the New York Motor Show (19 to 29 April), the refreshed coupe of the mid-size SUV. As with the GLC, improved assistance systems and the MBUX operating system are also available here. In addition, new engines are now used. Prices of the manufacturer for the coupe does not yet. The still current model starts at around 50.500 Euro. GLC and Coupé can be ordered from April and will be available to dealers starting in July.

The engine offer is identical to that of the GLC. At the start of the market, customers can choose between two petrol and three diesel engines. The power range is from 143 kW / 194 PS to 190 kW / 258 PS. All-wheel drive is always part of the standard. The engines belong to the new generation four-cylinder gasoline engine (M 264) and diesel (OM 654).

The gasoline engines (GLC 200 with 145 kW / 197 PS and GLC 300 with 190 kW / 258 PS) now work with electrical assistance from an 48-Volt system with belt-driven starter-generator. The standard electrification allows fuel-saving additional functions such as sailing with the engine off or recuperation. In addition, the generator called EQ Boost can assist the combustion when accelerating with additional 10 kW / 14 PS and thus bridge the turbo lag. The fuel consumption is Mercedes with 7,1 to 7,4 liters.

The new diesel (GLC 200d with 120 kW / 163 PS, GLC 220d with 143 kW / 194 PS and GLC 300d with 180 kW / 245 PS) fulfill the 2020 binding Euro 6d standard. This is achieved by a complex exhaust aftertreatment, which consists among other things of a Dieseloxidationskatalysator, particle filter with SCR catalyst function and the SCR catalyst with AdBlue injection. On average, the aggregates should be content with values ​​between 5,2 and 5,8 liters. By the end of the year, the plug-in version will be available for both GLC and Coupé. The engine range of the GLC will be successively expanded. This is likely to include the 43 and 63 AMG drives.

As standard, a sports suspension with adaptive damping on board. Optionally, there is a chassis that adjusts the damping depending on the driving situation, speed and condition of the road in cooperation with engine, transmission and steering characteristics. In addition, Mercedes has an air suspension on offer.

In addition to the MBUX operating system, which combines multimedia displays with touchscreen operation, navigation with augmented reality and voice control, the Coupé now has further developed assistance systems on board. For example, the Active Steering Assistant helps to create a rescue lane. An exit alert function draws attention to approaching cars and cyclists when the vehicle is at a standstill. Brand new on board is the Anhängerrangier Assistant, which is to assist in the backward maneuvering.
