Mercedes plans - factories and new cars are to become CO2-neutral

The auto industry needs to cut CO2 emissions from its new cars and factories. Now Daimler is presenting corresponding plans. They should be more than just image polishing.

Mercedes wants to become CO2039 neutral by 2. Both the vehicle fleet and the factories should then have a balanced emissions balance. This is part of the future plan "Ambition 2039" now presented by the future Daimler boss Ola Källenius.

Vehicle production in Europe is to take place from 2022 CO2-neutral. This should be possible, among other things, with electricity from renewable sources, the purchase of emission certificates and increased recycling. In addition, the topic should also be promoted by the suppliers. In its new car fleet, Mercedes primarily relies on battery electric drives and fuel cells, but emphasizes that it wants to be generally technology-free. The transformation should be completed by 2039, i.e. in less than three product cycles. Already 2030 is said to be more than 50 percent of all cars and commercial vehicles sold being electric or plug-in hybrid models.

Other car manufacturers also rely on electromobility and CO2-neutral production. Volkswagen recently presented ambitious plans. The Wolfsburg-based company wants to use its electrical ID family to reduce the CO2 emissions of its new vehicles sold, and plants and supply chains are also to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
