Motor Show Essen: Opel Motorsport ADAM and Astra

The good news first: OPEL is back! The Rüsselsheim-based company is not only represented at the Motorshow in Essen with an 830 m² stand, but will also be back in motorsport from 2013 - with a “double” factory assignment!

OPEL GIVES FULL GAS

I was able to announce the news about the return of the lightning to the circuit and the rally at the same time last week - I took the opportunity at the motor show in Essen and looked at both racing boxes again!

Visitors to the Essen Motor Show can get to know the new ADAM for the first time at a German trade fair. With the small lifestyle car, which will roll out to dealers in early 2013, Opel is tapping into the fast-growing segment of small and trendy city vehicles. Its almost unlimited design options make the ADAM a champion of customization. Whether a stylish roof cover with an LED starry sky, softly lit dashboard decorations or colored decorative clips for the rims - almost anything is possible with the ADAM.

Customer sport and youth development on a circuit and rally track

This summarizes Opel's new motorsport commitment, with which the car manufacturer wants to build on the company's long motorsport tradition. Starting on 2013, the Astra OPC Cup designed for the circuit and the new rally vehicle ADAM Rallye Cup will hit the slopes. An Ampera in Essen, which took part in the Monte Carlo Rally for alternative drives in March of this year, shows that an electric car can also be rally-compatible. A total of four Ampera placed in the top ten, a team even entered the overall victory with the "Car of the Year".

Professional rally talent promotion in cooperation with the ADAC

As part of the ADAC Rallye Masters racing series, the rally cup version of the new ADAM will drive out the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup one-make cup. The attraction of the competition is further enhanced by the fact that attractive premiums are distributed for the most successful drivers. An additional rally junior ranking for pilots up to 27 years is advertised within the cup ranking, of which the best can take part in a final screening. The winner of this sighting will be promoted separately by the ADAC and Opel in the following R2 season.

With the ADAC, Opel has won a partner whose philosophy of promoting young talents is almost identical to that of the company and who is involved in the project primarily through its organization and motorsport infrastructures. The Opel strategy is initially planned up to 2016. Subsequent to this, it includes a modular development program with which rally talents from the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup can advance to an international level. The Opel ADAM is used in the first two of a total of four stages, while the upcoming model generation of the Opel Corsa is planned for stages three and four.

Circuit: Astra OPC Cup as part of the VLN endurance championship

The new Astra OPC, which Opel is offering in a racing version for customer sport from the 2013 season, acts as the technical basis for the commitment on the racetrack. The cup vehicles are technically on the VLN endurance championship Nürburgring tailored - the most popular mass sport racing series in Europe - and will also run a one-make cup (Astra OPC Cup) in a separate class there. The highlight of the season is the participation in the 24-Stunden-Rennen on the Nürburgring.

The package, which is particularly attractive to private drivers, not only offers top performance and top-class racing technology at affordable costs. Similar to the rally project, a prize pool is also available. In addition, customers benefit from fairly calculated spare parts prices as well as technical and organizational support on and off the racetrack.
