Smart offers its new generation of small cars from the beginning of 2017 again with electric drive. While in the technology compared to the predecessor only details have changed, there is now in the body versions increase: For the first time, in addition to the second -and Fortwo and the derived convertible and the four -seater Forfour with battery drive to have. The prices start at 21.940 Euro and thus 1.740 Euro below those of the predecessor.
For the drive of the three new models Smart largely takes over the technology of its predecessor. In the rear of the Kleinstwagen sits the known from the previous Brabus special model electric motor with 60 kW / 81 PS, but whose torque increases from 135 to 160 Nm. The lithium-ion battery manufactured by the Daimler subsidiary Accumotive still has a capacity of 17,6 kWh, the standard range slightly increases from 145 kilometers to 160 kilometers.
Smart promises improvements in loading time. At the household socket, replenishment of the power supply is now expected to be 40 percent faster and complete after six hours, thanks to a new on-board charger. On a wallbox, the process takes 3,5 hours. In the course of the coming year, in addition, an 22 kW fast charger will have to be available for an extra charge, which will fill the battery in 45 minutes. In the past generation, the extra equipment cost around 3.000 Euro.
The three new Smart Stromers celebrate their premiere at the Paris Salon (1 until 16, October). A short time later they go first in the US on the market, the beginning of 2017 is Europe's turn. The Fortwo Cabrio will cost in Germany then 25.200 Euro, the Forfour 22.600 Euro. Compared to the conventional motorized models, this corresponds to an additional charge of around 10.000 Euro, which is partly offset by better equipment.
