News: Ford Ecosport - He's taken off the bike

Ford has redesigned its mini SUV Ecosport - and that just a year and a half after its market launch. The crossover, which is only available with front-wheel drive, now has a refurbished interior and new equipment options. Nothing changes in the price, the Ecosport is available from 17.990 euros.

The most striking change is the omission of the spare wheel on the tailgate opening on the side. The previously mandatory off-road style element is now only available on order (170 euros). Chrome interior parts and dimmable lighting are said to enhance the somewhat meager interior. In the course of the year, the navigation device and reversing camera are included on the options list for the first time.

The drive range also includes two petrol engines with 82 kW / 112 PS and 92 kW / 125 PS as well as a diesel, which now delivers 70 kW / 95 PS instead of 66 kW / 90 PS. All engines are coupled to manual five-speed gearboxes and drive the front wheels.

Ford first brought the Ecosport, which was originally only developed for South America, over from Brazil in early 2014 to participate in the booming market for small SUVs. So far, with rather modest success: In the current year there were around 2.200 buyers, and the compact model Kuga, which was designed more to European tastes, was bought by 11.700 drivers.
