The Ford Edge is said to be a premium SUV and comes to Europe with corresponding prices. But at least some equipment is included.
Ford will bring the Edge to Germany in mid-June. You can already order the mid-range SUV: the Cologne flagship of Europe costs at least 42.900 euros, then with the 132 kW / 180 hp diesel. The 4,81-meter-long all-wheel drive, which was taken over from the USA, crowns the brand's crossover program, which so far consists of the Ecosport mini SUV and the Kuga compact model.
The drive is decidedly European. In addition to the entry-level engine, the 2,0-liter diesel is also available with 154 kW / 210 PS (from 50.100 euros in the highest version "Titanium"). Ford specifies between 5,8 and 5,9 liters per 100 kilometers as the standard consumption for the units. An all-wheel drive, which divides the power between two or four wheels as required, is standard. The adaptive steering adapts to the speed.
With the Edge, Ford treats itself to a new flagship that will not only compete against models such as the Kia Sorento and Mitsubishi Outlander, but also attack premium competitors such as the Audi Q5 or Volvo XC60. The second-generation Edge wants to measure up to the expensive competition in terms of appearance and space in particular. The Edge is already comprehensively equipped as standard, including a voice-controlled infotainment system including an 8-inch touchscreen and reversing camera, Lane Keeping Assist, cruise control, air conditioning and a rain sensor.
With the options, Ford then offers everything that can be found on the corporate shelves. Among other things, brake assistants with pedestrian detection, cross-traffic monitoring when parking or belt airbags can be ordered. Ford sets its own accents with the American beefy design. The large, fully chrome-plated radiator with its two wide, glossy fins will be particularly noticeable in the German street scene.
