News: Mercedes B-Class - In the future without Tesla technology

Mercedes wants to forego the help of Tesla in the second generation of the electric B-Class. The drive technology used to come from the American electrical pioneer, but according to the magazine "Auto, Motor und Sport" the car manufacturer is now planning to develop these components himself.

In the future, Mercedes wants to buy the battery housed in the floor of the B-Class somewhere else. In addition, the range of the compact van should increase to around 500 kilometers. Theoretically, up to 200 kilometers are currently possible. Tesla supplies components and the battery for the current electric version of the B-Class.

With the decision of Mercedes, the partnership with Tesla will probably come to an end. In October 2014, Daimler sold the rest of its original 9,1 percent shares to Tesla for around 600 million euros.
