News: Renault Mégane Grandtour GT - More compact with a backpack

There is still not much that the French reveal about the new Mégane as a station wagon - but there are a few details. The station wagon, traditionally called Grand Tour at Renault, should shine in its class with a maximum loading length. The next lines show what else will be revealed about the new Renault Mégane Grandtour GT.

The five-door model of the French compact class was shown last year, but the French are now adding the particularly practical station wagon version called the Grand Tour. One of the highlights is certainly the all-wheel steering, the basic features of which we already know from the Renault Laguna. At high speeds, the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front wheels and thus provide more driving stability on the motorway. At low speeds, on the other hand, the rear wheels steer against the front wheels, making the Ranault Mégane Grandtour more manoeuvrable and helping with parking maneuvers, for example. Of course, they don't turn at the same angle as the front wheels, but only to a certain extent - otherwise the car would turn into an uncontrollable rubber ball. Nevertheless, the Grand Tour should be the only station wagon with this feature.

The design of the Grandtour is of course based on the style of the five-door in the fourth Mégane generation. So the compact class station wagon also carries the serious look with the daytime running light eyeliner wedging out. In addition, there is a contoured bonnet that accentuates the “rhomb” - Renault's trademark. The side lines rise slightly towards the rear, while the roof slopes down discreetly, creating dynamism - here the new Mégane is similar to its predecessor. Otherwise, it is noticeable that the D-pillar looks quite narrow, but this is thanks to the black paneling, which gives the impression that the rear window is pulling into it. This impression is emphasized by a chrome clip that starts on the exterior mirrors and ends at a sharp angle in the D-pillar. The rear is adorned - as we have already seen on the Mégane with hatchback - taillights that almost merge into one another and thus emphasize the trademark again. The GT version also has a diffuser attachment with two integrated exhaust pipes.

While there are still no details about the interior - except that it should be modular - the engine design is not quite so meaningless. The top model, a 1.6 liter turbo petrol engine, is also known from the five-door hatchback and has 205 horsepower. The other units will be ready to match the well-known Mégane, but there is no information on this yet. Just as little as an appointment when the station wagon will roll to the dealers.
