The location has been chosen appropriately: at the IAA, which is once again under the sign of electromobility this year, in Hall 5, diagonally opposite Tesla an exhibitor has placed himself who, according to his own statement, implicitly wants nothing less than "to redefine the standard for innovation and performance in an electric car".
The data of the white electric limousine with the huge touchscreen inside, which manufacturer Thunder Power, based in Taiwan, has brought to Frankfurt, reads accordingly: 320 kW / 435 hp, 650 km range with one battery charge, in 4,8 seconds on the Stand at 100 km / h and 250 km / h top speed.
That sounds very similar to the data of the currently only model of an American e-car manufacturer. But you don't want to copy Tesla, technology boss Peter Tutzer confidently clarifies. The Americans are serious competitors, but not a yardstick.
There are no small dimensions in which one thinks at Thunder Power: The architecture of the prototype is modular, an SUV or crossover could also be based on it. Tutzer, who previously said he worked for Porsche and Bugatti, among others, believes that Thunder Power could have two models in five years, maybe close to the third.
From 2018, the electric limousine will initially drive on German roads, but the main market for the electric vehicle is China, since the government is strongly promoting electric mobility here. It is produced in China, but has also been developed with a European influence: the research department is located near Milan, a collaboration with the world's largest automotive supplier Bosch or racing car manufacturer Dallara cites Thunder Power as examples. The streamlined design of the luxury sedan with the striking muzzle was created by the Zagato design studio.
